Mission
The mission of the NFC Workgroup is to develop a series of documents that provide guidance to Transit and Industry for the creation of an open system employing the NFC ecosystem for transit payment applications. To accomplish this mission, the NFC Working Committee membership shall be broadly representative of the transit industry specifically including transit system operators, the Federal Transit Administration (FTA), equipment manufacturers, engineering and consulting firms, mobile network operators, trusted service managers, payment processing organizations and others with an interest in the fare payment aspects of the transit industry. The NFC working committee, through a consensus process, shall create a range of documents supportive of the following guiding principles:
- Develop standards and best practices for guiding the creation of the architecture for NFC transit payment applications
- Provide a platform to support agency independence and vendor neutrality
- Strive for an open architecture environment for hardware and software utilizing open standards and established infrastructures of the NFC ecosystem.
- Foster development for an interoperable fare payment environment for transit users
