In accordance with requirements specified in the Contactless Fare Media Systems (CFMS) Standard, assigned numbering identification of CFMS compliance regions is required. When a transit agency or region begins a smart card AFC deployment, APTA will assign an RtsRegionID that will uniquely define that region in North America. The transit agency will in turn submit to APTA (or APTA can provide) their RtsIssuerID issuer code for that selected region. For example, the issuer code could refer to a specific issuing transit agency such as Miami-Dade, PATH, etc.
