Passenger Systems Committee

The PRESS Passenger Systems Committee develops and maintains standards and recommended practices covering the emergency features of passenger rail vehicles.  In the past the Committee has developed documents covering emergency signs, low level exit path marking, emergency communications and fire safety hazard analysis.  The Committee is currently working through the Federal Railroad Administration’s Rail Safety Advisory Committee process to get some of these documents incorporated by reference into Federal regulations.  In the future, the Committee plans to develop performance standards for the rate of evacuation from a rail car.
